Learn about CUPE Local 50

We Respectfully Acknowledge

CUPE Local 50 acknowledges that the province of British Columbia is located on the homelands of 203 distinct Indigenous nations and cultures; with more than 30 different languages and close to 60 unique dialects spoken in the province. We ask all CUPE members to reflect, acknowledge and honour in their own way the First Nation land on which they live, work and play.

Building community – yesterday, today and tomorrow.

The story of CUPE Local 50 is more than the story of the 55 workers who met one evening in 1918 and formed a local of the Civic Employees’ Protection Association. It is the story of those people and the ones that came after. A story of collaboration, friendship, and family.

Today, CUPE Local 50 represents workers at the City of Victoria (inside and outside), Victoria Police Board, BCSPCA Victoria Branch, Downtown Victoria Business Association, Gorge Vale Golf Club, Royal Oak Burial Park, City of Langford (RCMP Support Services) and the United Way of Greater Victoria.

A strong and democratic union, CUPE Local 50 is committed to improving the quality of life for workers in Victoria by providing a strong voice – a collective voice – in their workplace.
